For our grappling program, we didn’t want to simply use puzzle mats as we find that they don’t provide enough protection for take-downs. Instead, we’ve installed a matting system that provides 2 inches of padding; which is ideal for submission wrestling.
The entire grappling area is indoors with fans and proper ventilation. In addition to the proper matting, we also have specific bags that Fairtex provided us that are designed specifically for ground and pound drills.
With the exception of a row of bags along the back of the indoor area, the majority of the Muay Thai training takes place outside. We’ve installed a competition size training ring (20×20 foot) as well as bag stations and a matted area.
The entire facility is outfitted with brand new Fairtex equipment. To the left are some photos of the Muay Thai training area and below is a few videos recorded during the training sessions..
For those of you who are looking for a hassle-free fitness center that has great rates for short term memberships, you can check out the gym on the 4th floor of the Centara Duangtawan Hotel. California Wow is the closest option from the Team Quest facility (located in the mall across the street) but although it’s a bit further, the Centara gym has a lot to offer.
For starters, there’s an awesome pool (shown in the pictures) that wraps around the training area.
For those who will be looking to supplement their Muay Thai and/or MMA training with some weight lifting, you can walk across the street to the Central Airport Plaza shopping mall. On the top level, you’ll find a “California WOW” fitness center that’s loaded with free weights, hammer strength stationary equipment and of course, cute Thai girls jogging on the treadmills.
California WOW is a chain of fitness centers that is exclusive to Thailand. Each location has sort of a “hip” trendy feel to it.
